York Hotel set to reopen

It’s being reported that The York hotel in Portstewart has been bought by a family firm and will shortly resume trading in the popular north coast resort.

The York, which is well-known locally and is particularly popular among the legions of bike fans who visit the ‘Triangle’ area every year for the North West 200 motorcycle races, went on the market in mid-March this year as a ‘ready to open’ business’ with offers invited over £575,000.

The venue had previously gone into liquidation and closed in January, owing more than £600,000 to its creditors. John Pollock, a director of York Inn Leisure and Retail Ltd., had previously been disqualified from acting as a director for seven years following PAYE, National Insurance and VAT irregularities.

The company which has purchased the venue will run it as a hotel, say reports, and it will be open in time for this year’s races, which get underway this Monday, May 10.
