Well-loved bistro L’Etoile ready to serve its last meal

News that well known French restaurant  L’Etoile du Nord is to close its doors has been met with disappointment from its many loyal customers.

The quirky French bistro will fire up the ovens for the final time on October 13, it announced on its Facebook page.

The announcement read: “The Star stops shining…L’Etoile du Nord is going to close.

“It was not an easy decision but due to various circumstances, I think, the right one.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for coming over and over again and spreading the word about our little French place.
‘Very painful’

I would also like to thank the amazing team of L’Etoile du Nord, past and present.

“Without all of you there would not have been our great food (the best steak in Belfast) and the service we are known for.”

Owner Dorothee Fassunge, who happens to be German,  blamed rising energy prices, difficulties with supplies and demands on family life as the the reasons for closing after decades in business.

Writing on Facebook one fan said: “Such sad news. Had some of the best night’s of my life there. Great staff, great food and great fun!”

While another added: “What a loss to dining on the Ormeau road. Had some really great meals and lovely evenings dining with you guys. Will absolutely have to get over for a fillet steak before the final curtain call. All good things must come to end.”

Dorothee  told the Belfast Telegraph: “I know it’s the right decision to close, but it’s still very painful. I have been with L’Etoile since 1998, when I started working here as an exchange student.

“It was always my dream to own it, and I’m grateful I was able to live my dream. It’s very painful to let go of your dream.”
