Versatile newcomer arrives in time for summer

Local wholesaler, Belfast-based Botl is looking forward to summer with the launch of an exciting new product.

Inspired by nature, Butterfly Cane Rum is made from pure cane sugar grown in Trinidad and harvested after the native species of butterfly – known locally as the ‘Scarlet Peacock’ – lands on the crop and feeds off the ripe sap. Only when the butterflies gather is the crop harvested to make Butterfly Cane Rum.

The spirit is available as a premium-quality, three-year-old golden rum matured in oak barrels by the Fernandes family in Trinidad at 37.5% ABV,  as well as a spiced variant at 35% ABV.

The brand has been designed to hit the taste profiles of the lucrative ‘millennial’ market and was specifically developed to be the perfect base for cocktails and mixed drinks which are a key growth area in the industry at present.

“Our focus in the on-trade will be to build the brand in opinion-forming bars,” says Joan Kelly, marketing manager for Butterfly Cane Rum. ‘We have been working with mixologists to create cocktails around the product and develop key serving suggestions for both the three-year-old Golden Rum and our Butterfly Cane Spiced Rum. The best summer drinks are full of flavour — they can be subtle, fruity or just plain refreshing. Whether it’s during parties, weekend get-togethers or while in a bar, cocktails with rum just seem appropriate for warm-weather drinking.”

We suggest a refreshing twist on the ever-popular Daiquiri using grapefruit juice – known as a Hemmingway Daiquiri, it’s made using Butterfly Cane three-year-old Golden Rum, grapefruit juice, fresh lime juice and simple syrup and garnished with a grapefruit twist and should be served in a classic Martini glass.

Another favourite cocktail recipe for this summer is the Butterfly Kiss which is Butterfly Cane Spiced Rum with pineapple juice and lemonade, finished off with a peel of ginger as a garnish- simple but delicious.
