Popular Portstewart guesthouse closes doors

Well-known Portstewart guesthouse, The York, has been placed in administration.

Owned by the Pollock family, the venue, which also has a bar and restaurant, was a popular haunt for visitors during the annual North West 200 motorcycle races.

Last March, Richard Pollock (44), a director at York Inn Leisure & Retail Ltd., was disqualified for seven years.

The premises had previously gone into liquidation in 2011 with total assets available for unsecured creditors of £25,085, liabilities to unsecured creditors of £642,243 and an estimated deficiency in regard of creditors of £617,158.

Christine Alexander, an independent councillor in Coleraine, says that the closure is bad news for employees and visitors. She told the Belfast Telegraph:

“Portstewart has been enjoying a comeback with lots of good hotels and restaurants attracting tourists from home and abroad. It was a shock for local people on Monday night [January 19] to hear that it had been closed. The hotel has been associated with the Pollock family for some time and it was a good local employer.”
