Pizza Guyz owner disgusted by arson attack on store

The owner of Pizza Guyz has branded an attack on one of his shops as “sickening” after it was rammed by a car and set alight in the early hours of on January 9.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting arson.

Ciaran Kelly, above, owner of Pizza Guyz on the Andersonstown Road, said: “At half five or so in the morning I got a call and they said the shop was on fire. Initially I thought it was maybe a bit of equipment that was left on or a machine blew up.

“But when I saw the car outside the shop I realised quickly it wasn’t anything internal, it was external.

“Two guys had rammed the shop, burgled it and set the place on fire.”

Mr Kelly said he was shocked to see the business up in flames and was thankful there wasn’t a significant sum of money left on the premises at the time.

“There were three fire engines here, and it took them about three hours to put the fire out — it’s sickening really,” he said.

“Someone obviously thought there was loads of money in the shop but there’s not, everything is done online now, but the policeman said if some people think there is 50 quid somewhere, they will go to stupid lengths to get it.

“We are lucky we have a great community, great support, great staff and we are going to divert all our business from the Andersonstown store to the Ormeau Road store so we can still serve all our amazing customers,” he said.

“We are particularly concerned about the staff because they were unsure about their jobs but we have assured them their jobs are secure because we are going to need everyone when we get up and running again.

“Rest assured we will be back up and running soon, we are going to rise from the ashes, bigger and better than before.”

A police spokesperson said: “Officers on patrol in the area at 5am saw a vehicle and part of a shop front in flames.

“At this stage, it appears that the vehicle was driven at the shop and the fire started deliberately, causing extensive damage.”
