New hotel in Belfast city centre gets go-ahead

Permission for 13-storey building facing BBC first granted in 2020

Plan­ning permission for a new hotel in Bel­fast city centre’s Linen Conservation area first approved five years ago has been renewed.

There had been opposition and con­cerns expressed about the planning application by Andras House Ltd from parties such as the Greens and Alliance, the BBC, and conservation officers from both the council and Stormont.

Belfast City Council’s Planning Committee approved the application by Andras House in Belfast for a new 13 storey hotel.

It is to be built behind existing buildings at 29-33 Bedford Street, facing the BBC’S Ormeau Avenue building.

The plan also involves the refurbishment of the existing four storey terrace including alterations, an extension to rear, and partial demolition.

There are three existing properties on the site, each of four storeys. The terrace was constructed in 1875.

Andras House is a big investor in the city. They are currently building the Adagio Hotel on the former Dorchester House and also the hotel scheme on Shaftesbury Square.
