George Best Belfast City Airport recently extended a warm welcome to its newest airline, LinksAir, as it made its first flight from Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport to Northern Ireland.

The airline will operate 11 return flights per week between Belfast and Doncaster and is the most recent addition to the airport’s domestic and European route network, providing passengers with greater access to the north of England and east Midlands.

Welcoming the airline, Ellie McGimpsey from Belfast City Airport, said that its introduction signified a commitment to developing a supreme route network with frequent connections to locations popular with both business and leisure passengers:

“Our own location, just minutes from Belfast city centre, is extremely convenient for passengers. With cities such as Sheffield and York less than an hour’s drive from Doncaster Sheffield Airport, visitors are able to maximise their time at their destination and make the most out of their journey,” she added.

The route will operate two return flights on weekdays and one evening return on Sundays.

LinksAir commercial manager, Roger Hage, said:

“I am thrilled to be in Belfast to celebrate the beginning of this exciting new service to Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

“I have no doubt this route will be of economic benefit to the Northern Ireland economy and we are look forward to carrying passengers between the two destinations.”

Steve Gill, managing director of Robin Hood Airport, said that he felt that he felt the new Belfast route was “a great addition” to the airport’s offering:

“Belfast will be a fantastic business route with people being able to set off in the morning and be in Belfast city centre for the start of the business day,” he added.  “Leisure travellers keen to explore the great sights Northern Ireland has on offer or to experience a weekend break in Belfast can take advantage of the connection.

“I am delighted with our new relationship and look forward to working with Belfast City Airport, and LinksAir, now and into the future.”
