New Premier Inn for Bangor
Plans have been submitted to Ards and North Down Borough Council for an 85-bedroom Premier Inn with a restaurant on the site of the old Bangor Leisure Centre at Castle Park Avenue in the seaside resort. More than 30 new jobs will be created by the investment.
Premier Inn is the UKs biggest hotel brand with over 700 hotels across the UK, including seven in Northern Ireland. The popular hotelier has been looking for a suitable site in Bangor for a number of years and considers Castle Park Avenue, which has been vacant since early 2013, the ideal location.
Matt Aubrey, acquisitions manager for Premier Inn, told LCN:
“Working with our development partner, Conway Group, we have submitted plans for a brand new 85-bedroom Premier Inn in Bangor. If approved, the new hotel will deliver £7m in fresh investment, 30 new year-round jobs and attract new visitors to the area. We look forward to Ards and North Down Borough Council’s decision.”
Des Taggart of Conway Group, said he was delighted to be continuing a long relationship with the hotel group:
‘’The Hotel in Bangor will be a fantastic addition to the area and will boost the local economy as well as supporting the ongoing regeneration of the town.’’
The Conway Group also plans to develop 14 luxury apartments on the site. These will be situated next to the new hotel, overlooking Castle Park and Bangor Castle. This separate planning application represents a further £2m investment and additional job creation.
