Derry’s Strand Road to get taste of top sushi with new restaurant

A new Asian inspired restaurant is to open on Derry’s Strand Road in a unit which previously made up half of Pyke ‘N’ Pommes.

Umi Asian had previously been based at the Skeoge Industrial Complex prior to getting the city centre spot and hosted popular sushi nights in collaboration with other local businesses.

The business, owned by chef Sean Lafferty, above right, will take over a space that had been occupied by Derry favourite Pyke n Pommes, which will remain in their ever-popular restaurant next door.

And owner Kevin Pkye, above left, took to Facebook to welcome his new neighbour Sean Lafferty, writing: ” Yes Derry City!! So today is a mixture of emotions! As much as I’m sad to let go! I’m delighted to have the new Umi Asian become our neighbours.

Keep an eye on their socials for opening!”

Umi Asian replied: “Thanks for everything man!! Can’t wait to be neighbours.”

And Kevin wasn’t the only top chef from the city to weigh in, with Artis founder and Great British Menu favourite Phelim O’Hagan writing: ” Can’t wait to try Sean Lafferty Umi.Asian in a restaurant now… next level Asian goodness.”
