Costs force Pyke ’N’ Pommes closure

A Londonderry restaurant will serve its final meal at the end of the month, with the owners citing spiralling costs and continued pressure on the hospitality sector.

Pyke ’N’ Pommes, based at 53–55 Strand Road, said it will close that premises on Saturday, January 31, ending seven years of trading there.

Announcing the decision on social media, the owners said: “This decision hasn’t come easy,” but added, “The reality is the business is not sustainable anymore.”

They pointed to rising overheads as the key factor: “It’s been extremely difficult over the past few years with ever increasing food costs, wage and National Insurance increases, constantly rising energy costs!”

Reflecting on the venue’s role in the city, they wrote: “PNPs has been more than just a restaurant – it’s been a place where community gathered, friendships were made and countless celebrations were shared.”

They thanked customers for their support and invited them back before closing: “I hope you’ll all drop by for one last burger and a toast of beer or wine.”

The owners confirmed the Pyke ’N’ Pommes Pod on the riverfront will remain open, adding: “The POD will soon be open 7 days a week.”
