£11.8m expansion planned for Belfast’s Fitzwilliam Hotel

A major £11.8 million expansion has been proposed for Belfast’s prestigious Fitzwilliam Hotel on Great Victoria Street, marking a significant investment in the city’s luxury hospitality sector.

The planning application details an ambitious 11-storey extension that would add 52 new bedrooms, enhanced conference and event facilities, a new spa with six treatment rooms, and a dedicated swimming pool and gym.

General Manager Cian Lander confirmed the plans, saying:

“It appears the news is out – we’re in the very early stages of planning an extension to our existing property here in Belfast! We are incredibly proud of the success we’ve achieved over the past year, which is a testament to our hardworking team. Our vision for The Fitzwilliam has always been bold and forward-thinking. We’re continually investing in the property, elevating our standards, and pushing boundaries to ensure we stay ahead, and always delivering the very best for our guests.

Demand for our rooms often exceeds supply, so an expansion will allow us to welcome more loyal guests, introduce premium wellness experiences, increase event capacity, and elevate our offering. Our investment in this expansion reflects our belief in Belfast’s future; as a hub for tourism, business, and events, and in the strength of the Fitzwilliam brand.”

The development represents a strong vote of confidence in Belfast’s continued growth as a tourism and business destination. The Fitzwilliam Belfast is a sister property to The Fitzwilliam Hotel Dublin, which recently completed a multi-million-euro refurbishment, reaffirming the company’s long-term commitment to luxury hospitality across Ireland.
