mrDeanes earns prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2025

Renowned Belfast chef Michael Deane is celebrating another milestone in his culinary career as his latest restaurant, mrDeanes, earns a coveted spot in The Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2025.

Honouring his late father, mrDeanes opened last summer in the heart of Belfast, taking over the former Deanes Eipic location. In a remarkable achievement, it has become the only new Northern Irish recipient of the Bib Gourmand distinction in this year’s guide—an award that highlights exceptional dining experiences offering outstanding value for money.

The Michelin Guide describes the Bib Gourmand as a recognition for establishments that deliver high-quality cuisine at a reasonable price. It explains: “Since 1997, our best value for money restaurants – offering a three-course meal at a reasonable price – have been pointed out using a special award: the Bib Gourmand.

“The price limit for Bib Gourmand consideration varies from country to country, depending on the cost of living, but the inspectors are searching for the same high quality, wherever they happen to be in the world.”

mrDeanes is among just 36 restaurants across the UK and Ireland to be added to the prestigious Bib Gourmand list for 2025. It follows an impressive start for the venue, which was previously recognized in The Michelin Inspectors’ Favourite New Restaurants list just months after opening.

The latest recognition means mrDeanes now stands alongside its sister venue, Deanes at Queens, which also holds a Bib Gourmand. The Michelin Guide praised the restaurant, stating: “Northern Ireland’s new Bib Gourmand for 2025 comes from one of its greatest chefs.

“Michael Deane restaurants are a staple of the Belfast dining scene and this thriving operation inside the former Eipic premises is a celebration of cuisines from all over the world.

“Whether it’s a steak or a curry, it will be executed with aplomb and won’t break the bank.”

Taking to social media to share the news, Deane expressed his gratitude: “Proud to hold not one but two Michelin Bib Gourmand in our wonderful city of Belfast—mrDeanes and Deanes at Queens. Big shout out to my team for keeping us there.”
