Bangor’s The Goat’s Toe closes after over a decade
The Goat’s Toe, located on Main Street in the Co Down city, began trading in 2012 but has announced its closure in early 2025.
The group Bangor by the Sea, dedicated to the regeneration, development, and cultural resurgence of Bangor, shared the news on its Facebook page.
“The Goat’s Toe, one of Bangor’s most popular bars and entertainment venues, has closed,” they wrote. “Known for its vibrant atmosphere, live music, and welcoming charm, the venue was a cornerstone of the town’s nightlife and a firm favourite among locals and visitors alike.”
This closure comes just a week after Joxer, another popular café and restaurant in the city, revealed it would be shutting its Bangor location.
Bangor by the Sea continued: “The closure highlights the increasingly difficult environment for hospitality businesses. Rising costs, combined with the challenges of maintaining footfall in Bangor’s town centre, have proven too great for many to overcome.
“While Bangor is seeing signs of regeneration, such as waterfront and Queens Parade developments, the town continues to face economic struggles. The closure of The Goat’s Toe is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by businesses trying to survive in a shifting economic landscape.”
They added: “This is not just a loss for the business but also for Bangor’s social fabric. The Goat’s Toe was a space for connection, celebration, and community, and its absence will leave a noticeable gap in the town’s entertainment offerings.
“For the staff, performers, and loyal customers who made The Goat’s Toe such a cherished venue, its impact will not be forgotten.
“As Bangor continues its journey toward revitalisation, this closure underscores the importance of supporting local businesses to help secure the future of the town’s economy and culture.
“The Goat’s Toe leaves behind countless memories for those who walked through its doors, and its legacy as a popular part of Bangor’s nightlife will undoubtedly endure.”
