Portrush hotel closing for refurb ahead of Open
The Adelphi Hotel in Portrush has closed for renovations ahead of a 2025 relaunch as The Open golf championship returns to Royal Portrush.
Owners Marine and Lawn Hotels & Resorts will relaunch the venue under their own “collection” of properties that cater to golf enthusiasts.
The hotel’s guest rooms and common spaces will receive “comprehensive” renovations ahead of the relaunch.
The Adelphi is a four star hotel that sits on Portrush’s Main Street.
It was opened in June 2006 by Mark and Amanda Holmes, and has 28 en-suite rooms as well as a spa and sauna facility.
A spokesperson for Marine and Lawn Hotels and Resorts said: “With a deep understanding and respect for the history of the hotel and its connection to the Northern Irish community, the renovation will pay homage to the destination’s natural beauty and rich traditions.
“We are honoured to now have Adelphi Portrush as part of our distinct set of properties.”
The hotel is one of a number in the Coleraine and Portrush area to have changed owners in recent times.
The Premier Inn in the Riverside retail park was acquired in January 2023, and has since reopened as the Riverside Hotel.
The owners of the Lodge Hotel in Coleraine have confirmed they are close to a sale of the property.
The new owners of the Adelphi are part of US firm AJ Capital Partners, a firm which claims to have a portfolio of real estate investments worth over $5bn.
Marine and Lawn Hotels and Resorts also own the Slieve Donard hotel in Co Down which they bought in 2021 from the Hastings family, and relaunched in 2023. They spent around £16m on the refurbishment of the famous property.
Their hotels are located beside golf courses, and they aim to provide “curated amenities specially for the golf adventurer.”
They now own six properties across Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.
Royal Portrush last hosted the Open Championship in 2019, with Ireland’s Shane Lowry being crowned champion.
