£20m room2 ‘hometel’ set to open in city centre

Belfast’s first ‘hometel’ is set to open its doors later this month.

Real estate investor and developer Lamington Group will officially be welcoming the public to room2 on October 16.

It will be the company’s fourth outpost, and first property outside England.

The £20m, nine-floor room2 is located in a new building at the corner of Queen Street and College Street, built by Northern Ireland developer Oakland Holdings following the demolition of Lyndon Court.

It boasts 175 rooms, as well as a café, tea room, meeting and event spaces, a gym, bar, restaurant and a lounge available for both guests and locals alike looking for an area space to work or relax.

Michelle Thomas, Lamington Group’s New Openings Manager, said: “We are so excited to expand our portfolio and open our biggest hometel to date in the vibrant city of Belfast. We want our hometel to provide a place of comfort for both locals and tourists, further making our mark in the hometel sector of the hospitality industry.”

It also has free Wi-Fi, which Michelle hopes will encourage people to come in and use the building to work.

The hometel uses solar energy generation, as well as local sourcing of materials, products and artwork, with an aim of becoming net zero by 2030.

Prices start at around £130 a night.

A spokesman for Oakland Holdings said it was “delighted to be partnering with room2″.

“The location of the new aparthotel, right across from Merchant Square which we also developed and which is now fully occupied by PwC, will bring new life and energy to Queen Street and the central Belfast business district.”
