Waterfoot Hotel in Derry-Londonderry Acquired by Local Hotelier

New ownership team outlines long-term investment strategy for established Derry hotel

The Waterfoot Hotel in Derry-Londonderry has been acquired by a partnership led by local hotelier Ciaran O’Neill, marking a new chapter for one of the city’s established hotels.

The Waterfoot Hotel, which first opened its doors in 1982, will come under new management at the beginning of October. The team has outlined a long-term investment strategy focused on modernising and enhancing the hotel, while building on its established position within the local tourism and hospitality sector.

Ciaran O’Neill, Managing Director of the hotel operating company, said:

Ciaran O’Neill is an established figure within Derry’s hospitality sector and currently operates the award-winning Bishop’s Gate Hotel, located within the historic city walls. His hospitality career spans more than 35 years managing many of Derry’s iconic Hotels.

The acquisition further expands the local hotel portfolio in Derry and reflects the new owners’ long-term commitment to the city and its continued development as a tourism, hospitality and events destination.

The new management team will take over the operation of The Waterfoot Hotel at the beginning of October and will be led by new General Manager Laura Davies, who brings extensive experience and knowledge of the local hospitality market to the role.

Michael O’Neill will join the management team as Deputy General Manager, working alongside Laura as the hotel enters its next phase of development.
