Tourism under the digital spotlight at Cultra

A tech event aimed at Northern Ireland’s tourism sector will take place this November at the Ulster Transport Museum at Cultra.

The fourth annual Digital DNA Tourism event will bring together world-class industry figures to discuss the use of digital media in the tourism industry. Supported by companies including The Digital Garage from Google and Eir Business NI, the event offers businesses in the tourism and hospitality sector expert advice on the use of digital marketing and social media.

Speaking about the upcoming event, Digital DNA’s commercial director, Simon Bailie said that “this event has grown year on year with the support of Tourism NI and we’re seeing some incredible statistics coming out of Northern Ireland in relation to the growth of the tourism sector here”.

The Department for the Economy reported an 11 per cent increase in tourist spending in March of this year, with over £862m being spent by local and international visitors. Digital DNA believes the use of skilled digital marketing in the tourism industry is vital to capitalising on the increasing interest amongst consumers.

As Mr Bailie said, “we’re seeing a considerable increase in interest from international visitors due to the attractive value of visiting Northern Ireland. With that, comes a huge opportunity for the tourism, hospitality and leisure industry here to capture that interest by honing their digital skills and reaching this global audience”.

Tourism NI chief executive John McGrillen commented that Digital DNA’s upcoming event is vital to developing the tech skills that will ensure the industry remains competitive.

He said: “2016 was a strong year for tourism in Northern Ireland.  If we are to maintain momentum and deliver continued growth, our tourism industry must be internationally competitive. Therefore, skills detailed at Digital DNA Tourism are essential to capitalise on recent trends.”

The event will take place on November 20th at the Ulster Transport Museum, Cultra
