The Corner House Bar: A village’s beating heart

Nestled in the heart of Derrymacash, The Corner House Bar stands as a beloved community hub, thanks to the dedication of its owner, Trevor McCann.

Growing up just a few doors away, Trevor has always had a deep connection to this pub, where he spent his formative years. “It’s very special to me because it’s the local pub where I grew up,” he shares proudly.

When the opportunity to purchase The Corner House arose, Trevor and his wife, Roisin, seized the chance. He recalls, “There were people who thought I was mad,” but he remained confident in his vision for the space. He aimed to create an environment that catered to families and the wider community, stepping away from the nightclub atmosphere that had previously dominated the venue. “I knew if the business was going to succeed, we had to move backward in order to move forward,” he reflects.

Transforming The Corner House was no small feat. Trevor immersed himself in every detail of the renovations, ensuring they reflected his vision. “I wanted it to feel warm, welcoming, and distinctly ours,” he notes. The pub now features cosy interiors and a spacious beer garden, perfect for families to gather and enjoy time together. The introduction of this outdoor space has been particularly significant, especially during the pandemic. “We introduced pods, a large outdoor TV, and a children’s play park—things that appealed to families who wanted a safe environment,” Trevor explains.

Trevor also prioritised creating a menu that elevates the food experience without losing the essence of a pub. “We wanted to elevate the food experience without losing the essence of a pub,” he states, highlighting the importance of using local ingredients and seasonal dishes. Supporting local suppliers has been a priority since day one.

As The Corner House flourishes, it has become a popular gathering place for charity events, quiz nights, and live music. “It’s important for us to be a part of the fabric of the village and support local causes,” Trevor emphasises.
