Seatons of Sailortown confirms opening date

This Friday, 29th November at 5pm, Belfast’s hospitality scene will gain a unique new venue with the opening of Seatons of Sailortown.

Led by hospitality entrepreneur Kelvin Collins, the transformation of McKenna’s Bar into a modern pub honours the legacy of Molly Seaton, a pioneering Northern Irish footballer.

“Molly Seaton was a local hero, a woman who broke barriers in a male-dominated sport,” says Kelvin. “Her story of captaining the Irish women’s football team and playing for Rutherglen in the 1920s is incredible, yet she’s rarely recognised. Seatons is our way of celebrating her achievements and Belfast’s rich history.”

The venue reflects a blend of old and new. “McKenna’s had so much character, and we wanted to preserve that while giving it a fresh vibe,” Kelvin explains. “Features like snugs and booths remain, but we’ve added modern touches like a larger bar and stylish lighting.” A central fireplace serves as a cosy focal point, creating an inviting space Kelvin describes as “warm, welcoming, and distinctly Belfast.”

Supporting local producers is a priority for Kelvin, with Seatons featuring Northern Irish favourites like McConnell’s Whiskey and Jawbox Gin, alongside a food menu inspired by regional flavours. “From drinks to dishes, it’s all about showcasing the best of what Northern Ireland has to offer,” he says.

Kelvin also envisions Seatons as a hub for the community, incorporating live Irish music and local history. “This is more than a pub—it’s a place that celebrates Sailortown’s spirit and stories,” he notes.

With the festive season launch, Kelvin is confident Seatons will attract a wide audience. “It’s a space for everyone—whether for a quiet pint or a night out. Seatons is about honouring the past, embracing the present, and creating something special for Belfast.”
