Ramore restaurant regains top Food Hygiene Rating

Popular Portrush eatery awarded five stars just weeks after being told major improvements were needed.

One of Portrush’s best-known restaurants, Ramore, has been awarded the highest possible food hygiene rating just a month after receiving a low score and being told that significant improvements were necessary.

In early April, Ramore Restaurants Ltd, located on Harbour Road, was given a Food Hygiene Rating of 1 out of 5 by Causeway Coast and Glens District Council, citing issues with structural compliance and confidence in management. Inspectors at the time said “major improvement” was needed, and noted a general failure to meet statutory obligations in certain areas.

However, following a period of work with council officials, a follow-up inspection has brought a complete turnaround. In an update shared on social media, the restaurant announced that it had achieved a 5 out of 5 rating at Neptune & Prawn, and a 4 out of 5 at Ramore and The Harbour.

“These scores reflect the standards we’ve always held ourselves to,” a spokesperson said, thanking customers for their support and confirming that additional food safety measures have been introduced.

With The Open returning to the north coast next month and Rory McIlroy set to compete, Ramore is expected to be a major draw. The restaurant has encouraged early bookings and described itself as the “place to be” during tournament week.
