Michael Deane raises the steak with mrDeanes
Renowned chef Michael Deane has officially unveiled his latest venture, mrDeanes Bistro Bar and Social, situated on Howard Street, Belfast.
This vibrant 90-seater restaurant blends approachable dining with refined flavours, marking a significant departure from Deane’s Michelin-starred past.
“I want to do a menu that’s for people, not chefs. No words like ‘textures of cauliflower’ or ‘emulsion.’ Those scare people off,” says Deane, as he focuses on creating dishes that evoke memories and comfort.
A standout offering is Entrecôte au Poivre, a simple yet nostalgic dish that epitomises Deane’s philosophy of food that resonates with people.
mrDeanes also signifies a fresh direction for the brand. With modern interiors, a lively bar, and a private hire space called MrDeanes Social, it combines relaxed dining with an elevated edge. Reflecting on the restaurant’s evolution, Deane admits, “The middle market is overcrowded… too many menus look the same—tomahawk steaks, ribs, the usual suspects. We need more diversity.”
Through its thoughtful menu and inviting atmosphere, mrDeanes captures the essence of what Deane believes makes hospitality special: “Hospitality is the best industry in the world. You’ll always be well taken care of, enjoy great food, and meet incredible people.”
