Listed home with planning approval for hotel on market for £2.5m
A listed 18th century house in Co Antrim with planning approval for a 61-bedroom hotel, has gone on the market for £2.5 million.
The seven-bedroom ‘Old Glebe’ in Derrykeighan, between Ballymoney and Bushmills, dates back to 1780 and has already been used as a bed and breakfast.
The private house, set in 13 acres, had a planning application to transform it into a four-star hotel approved by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council in November 2019.
Plans included converting the interior of the Georgian house and building a new extension, with the provision of up to 132 parking spaces..
Documents submitted in support of the application suggest the plans involved an investment of up to £20m, the Irish News revealed.
The planning green light came just four months before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, which hit the north’s tourism sector.
Owned by Nick Scott, the 13,000 sq ft house includes seven bedrooms, three reception rooms, a music room, study and library.
The property also boasts a courtyard with seven stables, storage facilities and a barn.
Any new owner would have until November 1, 2024 to commence work.
