KFC partnership serves 2 million meals to communities

KFC has redistributed the equivalent of 2 million meals to communities across the UK, in partnership with the food redistribution charity, FareShare, hitting the milestone two months ahead of schedule.

With 7.2 million people currently facing food insecurity in the UK, the partnership between KFC and FareShare, which aims to redistribute KFC’s surplus chicken to communities in need, is more vital than ever.

Through the partnership, surplus chicken from over 950 KFC restaurants is redistributed to almost 1,000 charities, community groups and community kitchens to help support people most in need across the UK.

This milestone achievement comes 2.5 years after KFC and FareShare embarked on their partnership in June of 2022. The partnership marked a significant step for FareShare Go as it expanded into providing community groups with frozen food for the first time. This not only increased the variety of food available to those facing food insecurity but also provided them with greater flexibility to enjoy meals on their own terms, in their own time.

Jenny Packwood, Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer at KFC, says: “Our food is too good to waste, and we’re passionate about making a real difference in the communities we serve. As food insecurity continues to impact so many across the UK, we are proud to be playing our part in helping to provide good quality, protein rich food and tackle waste by getting our surplus fried chicken to people who need it most. We are so proud to have hit this milestone, and it’s all down to our hardworking team members, who are committed to making an impact in their local community. We know there’s always more we can do, and we look forward to continuing our work with FareShare and working in partnership to hit our next milestone.”

Kris Gibbon-Walsh, Chief Executive at FareShare, said: “We’re hugely grateful to KFC for continuing to support FareShare by supporting our mission to ensure no good food goes to waste. Two million meals is an incredible milestone, and it’s through the hard work and dedication of KFC restaurants that they have reached this achievement earlier than anticipated. The surplus chicken KFC redistributes through FareShare gets vital protein to local charities, providing meals and strengthening communities across the UK.”
