Molly Malone’s restaurant closes due to ‘unsustainable climate’

Molly Malone’s Restaurant, a well-known establishment in Derry, has announced the closure of its dining services, citing the challenges of an “unsustainable climate”.

While the restaurant has ceased operations, the associated bar and off-licence will remain open.

In a statement shared on social media, the team expressed their regret and gratitude:
“It is with great sadness and regret that we announce today marked the final food service at Molly Malone’s Restaurant. Unfortunately, due to multiple factors, it has become unsustainable for the restaurant to continue operations in the current climate,” the statement read.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff and loyal customers for their support over the years. We truly wish things could have turned out differently.”

The restaurant also confirmed they would contact customers with existing reservations to discuss alternative arrangements. Additionally, they acknowledged the inconvenience caused to those with gift vouchers:
“We apologise for the lack of notice to customers who had purchased gift vouchers for the restaurant. But in some circumstances this cannot be helped. Vouchers can still be redeemed in Molly Malone’s Bar or Off Licence.”

The announcement has prompted an outpouring of support on social media. One customer wrote, “So so sorry to hear this. Thank you so much for all your service. Your staff were always wonderful to my family.” Another commented, “This is so sad, the nicest food, best service, and best staff—a favourite to so many.”

Despite the restaurant closure, Molly Malone’s Bar and Off Licence will continue to operate, ensuring the business maintains a presence in the local community.
