Boojum to open first GB branch in Leeds

Irish burrito chain Boojum is set top open its first branch outside 0f the island of Ireland in Leeds.

The firm, which first opened on Botanic Avenue in Belfast back in 2007, will open in the city in April.

“The new store opening in Leeds Merrion Centre will create 40 new jobs including both full time and part time positions,” it said.

The chain was sold to the UK company which runs the Zizzi and Ask Italian restaurant chains.

The business was bought by David and Andrew Maxwell in 2015 as part of a management buy-in, which was backed by investment firm Renatus.

Azzurri Group said it had acquired a controlling interest in Boojum from Renatus Capital Partners.

David Maxwell, the firm’s managing director, posting on LinkedIn, said: “See you soon Leeds… hopefully the first of many stores in mainland UK”.

It revealed last year that it would open its 15th location in Ireland at Dublin’s Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, with the creation of 30 new jobs.

It said the opening was in response to the brand’s “phenomenal success” around Co Dublin.

The unit will seat 50 people inside and another 16 outside, and will also offer take away, click and collect, and delivery services.
