Beloved North Coast pub Hunters Bar put up for sale

Family-owned Ballyvoy venue to change hands after generations at the heart of the community.

A much-loved pub on the Antrim coast is set for a new chapter, as the Hunter family has announced plans to sell Hunters Bar in Ballyvoy village, bringing an end to decades of family ownership in the Carey community.

In an emotional statement posted to social media, Teddy and Dolores Hunter said the decision to sell had not been taken lightly: “Hunters Bar has been part of our family for as long as we can remember… but after many happy years, we feel it’s time for us to enjoy a bit of freedom and look forward to new adventures.”

Originally known as the Fair Head Hotel and first licensed in the late 19th century, the premises later became the Hunter family’s pub, located just a few miles from Ballycastle at the gateway to the scenic Torr Road coastal drive.

The pub is being marketed as a fully licensed business and going concern, with current staff expected to transfer to any new owner. The venue includes a traditional front bar, a lounge/function room, and a fitted kitchen, with a popular beer garden often used for community events.

The family thanked staff, loyal customers, and the wider community for their continued support, confirming that the bar will remain open and trading until a sale is completed, with several events planned to celebrate its legacy.
