Andras House to turn former tax offices into apart-hotel

Andras House is planning to develop Belfast’s Dorchester House into an apartment-style hotel.

The hospitality business revealed the new venture would be the first of the Adagio brand, part of the Accor Hotels group, to open up in Northern Ireland.

Andras House is planning to develop the firmer HMRC offices to include a ground floor café, and adding additional floors at the 10-storey structure.

The firm bought the Great Victoria Street building in 2020, alongside backing from Danske Bank, and initially announced it had planned to refurbish and redevelop the building into grade A office space.

Now, early fresh plans filed on behalf of Andras House managing director Rajesh Rana outlines potential revised plans for the scheme, with Clyde Shanks acting as the firm’s planning consultancy.

Mr Rana, above, said: “The new proposed property will be an ‘apart-hotel’ under the Adagio brand, which is part of the Accor Hotels group.

“It will have approximately 130 serviced apartments with studios, one-bedroom apartments and an innovative ‘co-living’ concept suitable for corporate groups, where a group of 4 bedrooms are clustered around a living area. We hope to be on site in early 2024.”

Dorchester House was built for the former Inland Revenue almost 30 years ago by Andras House under the leadership of his father Lord Diljit Rana.

Speaking at the time of the building’s latest acquisition in 2020, Rajesh Rana had said the purchase of Dorchester House represented the latest in a series of investments by the company, close to what will be the new Transport Hub at Weaver’s Cross.
