204% spike in Cosmopolitan cocktail searches following SATC reboot

The return of Carrie Bradshaw has sparked a 204% increase in global searches for Cosmopolitan cocktails, according to figures from online drinks retailer The Bottle Club.

There are few cocktails more instantly recognisable than the Cosmopolitan, which has again taken the world by storm with The Bottle Club reporting over 141,000 global searches for Cosmo recipes in the last month.

And Just Like That hit our screens in recent weeks, heralding a 27% increase in people purchasing Cosmos.

The Bottle Club has also seen a 54% increase in users looking at pre-mixed Cosmos.

The popularity of the Cosmopolitan has soared since Carrie Bradshaw took her first televised sip in 1999 – just as a signature pair of Manolo Blahniks have long been Carrie’s favourite shoe, the Cosmopolitan has been her favourite cocktail.

Lip smackingly both sweet and sour, the feminine rose-coloured version of the classic Martini is poured above the neck of the glass – which resembles the stiletto of the Manolo Blahnik shoe.

“There’s certain things on the show that you couldn’t do, because the costs were prohibitive, but something like a cupcake or a Cosmo was something you could afford,” Jennifer Keishin Armstrong, author of Sex and the City and Us, revealed.

“Even if it was an outrageously priced Cosmo, it’s still better than $500 Manolos. So you get a little taste of it without having to take out a second mortgage in order to pay for it.”

Here’s how to shake up the perfect classic Cosmo:

How to shake:

  1. Pour 35ml of citrus vodka, 20ml of lime juice, 20ml of triple sec and 40ml of cranberry juice into a shaker with cubed ice.
  2. Shake for 15 seconds or until condensation forms on the outside of the shaker. Fine strain into your saucer and garnish with a flamed orange zest.

How to serve:

Ideally, a martini saucer will add that extra touch of elegance to your drink. This sophisticated set of four martini glasses from tabletop industry leader Mikasa will do just the trick.
