New Cathedral Quarter tourist digs from just £45 per room

The company behind the Number 11 hotel on Belfast’s Malone Road is set to create new low-cost tourist digs in the Cathedral Quarter.

What was student accommodation next to Ulster University’s new city centre campus will now be revamped by the Warren Collection as “minimalist” and “quirky” low cost accommodation with rooms available from just £45 per night .

Mark Royal House, a former office building  on Donegall Street, had been converted into a 45-bedroom student scheme in 2015 in anticipation of Ulster University’s relocation to its new York Street campus. However, three years after it was due to be completed, work on the campus is still ongoing.

The renovation marks the Warren Collection’s second project in Belfast following the opening of the Number 11 boutique hotel opposite Queen’s University’s Computer Science Building in May last year.

Co-founder Mark Docherty said: “Despite the challenges that global tourism is going through due to the pandemic, Belfast is, and will continue to be, a great destination for both domestic and international tourists alike.”

The Quarter is due to open this spring, a year after the new hospitality group opened its 12-bedroom Malone Road hotel.

With rooms costing from just £45, co-director David Warren said: “Hotel rates do not need to be excessive to ensure visitors are provided with the very best user experience.

“At The Quarter we have combined smart design with new technology to create an environment that is high-end as well as being great value for money.”

Mr Docherty added: “Belfast is a prime location for the Warren Collection. In normal trading times, it has a strong influx of international visitors. Even with the current travel restrictions in place, the city has character; a tangible and growing vibe also popular with domestic visitors.”
