New Aquarium to open in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter

Plans to see a new aquarium open in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter have been revealed.

The £10 million marine tourist attraction will be located opposite the Titanic Hotel,  and is expected to attract more than 300,000 people each year.

The Exploris Aquarium in Portaferry is currently Northern Ireland’s only aquarium, reopening in 2016 after a £1.5m refurbishment.

The new aquarium, which is due to open in early 2021, will be the largest ocean visitor attraction on the island of Ireland.

According to the project developers, there has been an increase of interest in marine life, alongside the growing concerns of environmental sustainability and the desire to understand how we can take better care of our planet.

As tourism industry in Northern Ireland continues to grow, the new site is expected to be an ideal addition to the thriving variety of family friendly experiences in Belfast.
