Portadown favourite The Head O’ The Road has been named Community Bar of the Year at the LCN Awards.

Spotcheck judges said of the venue: “The winner of this award impressed the judges with unstinting support of a wide range of community initiatives, sponsorship provided and charity fundraising.  They have built strong long-term partnerships with their community and their suppliers and have evolved their offering to create a popular community hub to welcome allcomers.”

The highly anticipated awards – which are hosted by Northern Ireland’s premiere business magazine for the hospitality industry – took place at a Great Gatsby themed event at the Europa Hotel, Belfast.

On collecting his award from Richard Mayne, Wholesale Director with sponsor Drinks Inc, owner John Lawson said: “I’m made up to win this award which is for the whole team and down to all the hard work we’ve done all year to make it as good as it can be. Coming out of Covid wasn’t easy and this is a real lift for everyone connected to the bar.”

Beaten finalists included:

  • Friels Bar and Restaurant, Maghera
  • Ponderosa, Glenshane Pass
  • The Corner House Bar, Lurgan
