Bayview took £2m Covid hit, says owner

The owner of one of the north coast’s most popular hotels has told LCN the loss to his business over the past year has been around £2million and that a full recovery from the Covid-19 hit is likely to take two years.

Trevor Kane, who took on the Bayview in Portballintrae in 2008, said: “It will be very difficult to bounce back but hopefully we will get continued support from guests throughout the country.

“We are very fortunate that many of our guests are frequent visitors who love to join us a number of times throughout the year. Sadly we have lost a number of guests due to C19, we’ll never see them again.

“The loss to the business over the past year has been approx £2million revenue! I believe it will take a good two years for full recovery.

However, with indoor hospitality set to reopen on May 24 and the hotel industry in Northern set to get a staycation boost, Trevor is optimistic about the coming season.

He told LCN: “I’m fairly confident that because of our location on the Giants Causeway Coast and being a small 25 room business with decent restaurant and bar trade we will survive. I am sure good business’s will weather this awful pandemic and will strive to survive with us.

“It’s looking like most people will embrace hospitality as before but with caution and understanding about the difficult process for hoteliers to ensure that everyone is comfortable to safely visit all great establishments throughout NI.”
