The Lansdowne under new ownership following multi-million pound deal

North Belfast hotel The Lansdowne is under new ownership following a multi-million pound deal, according to a report in the Irish News which stated that ‘Co Donegal brothers Patrick and Edmund Simpson handed over the keys of the 23-bedroom Antrim Road venue on Thursday.

‘The new owner the Lynntara Group, led by retail entrepreneur Linzi Rooney of Belfast-based Born & Bred; financier and investor Conor Devine; and Co Tyrone-based chartered accountant Justin Corr.

The value of the deal has not been disclosed, however The Irish News understands the price agreed is in the region of £6 million.

It’s the second Belfast hotel sold by the Simpsons in Belfast this month following the sale of Benedicts on Bradbury Place to hospitality operators Colin and Louise Johnston.

“We are genuinely privileged to acquire The Lansdowne,” said Linzi Rooney.

“This is not just a hotel, it is an institution that holds an incredibly special place in the hearts of the north Belfast community.

“From family celebrations and weddings to live music nights, The Lansdowne has been woven into the fabric of life on the Antrim Road for decades.

“We do not take that legacy lightly, and we are committed to honouring it.”

Fellow director Conor Devine said: “As someone who has deep roots in this part of Belfast, acquiring The Lansdowne is a moment I am enormously proud of.

“As a frequent user of the hotel services over the years, one of the most valuable and recognisable part of the business is the quality of the people who work here.

“The staff at The Lansdowne are incredible, and are one of the main reasons why this hotel has such a special reputation, and they will be central to everything we do going forward.

“We are absolutely committed to supporting, investing in, and developing the existing team. They are not just employees; they are custodians of something very special, and we want them to feel that.”
