Michael Deane expands portfolio with new venture
Veteran chef and restaurateur Michael Deane has announced plans to launch a new smash burger restaurant in Ballyhackamore, adding to his extensive hospitality portfolio.
Deane, who was presented with LCN’s Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this year, already operates several high-profile establishments including Deanes at Queens, Deanes Meatlocker and mrDeanes. With more than 30 years in the industry, he remains one of Northern Ireland’s most influential figures in food and hospitality.
The new venture, named FLINK, is a collaboration with business partner Karl Wilkinson and will be located in the former Squid Shack premises on the Upper Newtownards Road. Renovation work is currently underway ahead of the opening.
Announcing the project on social media, Deane said: “National Burger Day tomorrow so today is a good day to let you know about a new venture and concept! Myself and Karl Wilkinson will open FLINK in Ballyhackamore on the east side. A fun smash burger concept serving the best of Irish beef, Deanes own wines, soft serve ice cream, great tunes and so much more.”
FLINK’s arrival comes as Ballyhackamore continues to attract new investment in its food and drink sector. The site’s neighbour, the former Il Pirata restaurant, is also set for a relaunch under the ownership of the team behind Neill’s Hill, who plan to open a new sister venue.
