The Merchant Hotel rolls out the green carpet

Belfast’s famous Merchant Hotel is preparing to roll out the green carpet for the biggest event of the summer.

With the 153rd Open returning to Royal Portrush between 13-20 July, The Merchant is teeing up a suite of special perks to guests and golf fans making Belfast their home base for the tournament.

Guests staying at The Merchant and attending The Open will receive complimentary ‘petit fores’ in their rooms and will have the option to enjoy a Bloody Mary before they set off by luxury bus to Portrush. Guests will also have their very own Clubhouse within the hotel to relax and watch all the golfing action on screen, while The Spa will offer a range of signature treatments to help guests relax and unwind after a long day.

If you’re not staying at the hotel, you can still get in on The Open fun. The Cloth Ear has a special list of Open themed cocktails including a special ‘Claret Jug’, priced £12.95, which includes a heady mix of Hennessy V.S Cognac, Cabernet Sauvignon, citrus, cinnamon, pineapple and Angostura Bitters.

And as NI’s own Rory McIlroy gets set to return home with a new feather in his cap off the back of his Masters victory in April, The Merchant’s concierge team are sporting feathers in their own new bespoke top hats by leading Belfast milliner, Grainne Maher. The striking new hats perfectly coordinate with stylish green and black concierge jackets, adorned with brass buttons that wouldn’t look out of place beside Rory’s iconic green jacket.

Throughout the tournament week, The Merchant’s concierge team will greet guests at the Skipper Street entrance, beside a bespoke green carpet welcoming guests to ‘the home of golf in Belfast.’

General manager, Gavin Carroll, general manager said: “We’re proud to play a part in building buzz for this momentous event, as golf fever begins to grip Northern Ireland this summer. The Merchant is a popular choice for golf groups, with many golfers choosing The Merchant as their base from which to explore NI’s many top courses. Whether you’re staying with us and traveling up and down to Royal Portrush for The Open, or wanting to get into the spirit of the celebrations in Belfast, The Merchant is the home of golf in Belfast this summer.”
