Wingers eyes Northern Ireland in next phase of UK expansion
Northern Ireland could be the next stop for one of England’s fastest-growing fried chicken chains, as Wingers lines up its latest wave of openings across the UK.
The West Midlands-based brand, famed for its buttermilk fried chicken wings and tenders has announced plans to launch up to 30 new sites by the end of 2025, with Northern Ireland firmly on the radar.
Founded by the Sunner family in 2020, Wingers has grown from a single site in Aldridge to 14 restaurants in just five years, with its franchise-driven model accelerating expansion.
Now, co-founder Bill Sunner, who leads the company’s franchise development, says they’re on the lookout for experienced hospitality operators to take the Wingers brand into new territories — including Northern Ireland.
“When we first launched during the pandemic, we had no idea our top notch, buttermilk fried chicken would take off like it has,” said Sunner.
“As a result, Wingers has great potential for further growth.
“It now means there is a real opportunity for business-minded individuals looking to run a thriving franchise, and we are inviting applications for more experienced QSR professionals in all parts of the country including Northern Ireland to join us on our expansion journey.”
The move would see Wingers join a growing list of international chicken brands landing in the region. In the past year alone, Popeyes, Mary Brown’s Chicken, and Slim Chickens have all launched Northern Irish locations — with Chick-fil-A recently opening two new outlets along the M1 and M2 motorways.
With fried chicken clearly having a moment, Wingers’ arrival could further heat up an already sizzling market.
Franchise inquiries for Northern Ireland and other regions can be made via the official Wingers website.
