New Belfast restaurant earns Michelin Guide spot just months after opening

Award-winning chef and restaurateur Michael Deane has quickly added another Michelin-recognised venue to his Belfast restaurant portfolio.

mrDeanes, his latest addition in the city centre, has been listed in The Michelin Inspectors’ Favourite New Restaurants only a few months after opening, marking it as a standout among the best up-and-coming spots across the UK and Ireland.

Opened this summer, mrDeanes is a spacious 90-seater that offers an à la carte menu filled with Deane’s signature dishes, showcasing his long-standing commitment to quality and hospitality.

The name of the new restaurant is a personal tribute to Deane’s late father, Ted, who provided invaluable support to him throughout his career.

A seasoned presence in the Michelin Guide, Michael Deane expressed his pride in the new restaurant’s rapid recognition, saying, “Michelin holds international prestige, and we’re incredibly proud that mrDeanes has made its mark in the new guide after just a few months of opening. In these challenging times, delivering great value and setting a high standard is more important than ever.”

The restaurant joins Deane’s other Michelin-recognised venue, Deanes at Queens, which holds a Bib Gourmand for high-quality and affordable cooking.

The Michelin Guide describes mrDeanes as a vibrant and welcoming space, its full name—‘mrDeanes Bistro, Bar and Social’—capturing the restaurant’s lively and approachable concept.

Guests are encouraged to start with a cocktail at the bar before moving to the dining area, which is filled with energy and charm.

The menu is praised for its well-executed and diverse options, which draw inspiration from international flavours.

Highlights include dishes such as Gaeng Phed red curry and entrecôte au poivre.

An additional set menu priced at £19.93 pays homage to Deane’s original restaurant, Deane’s on the Square, which opened in 1993.
