Co-op brewery Boundary close to Taproom funding target

Belfast co-op Boundary Brewing has crowdsourced £60,000 in just three weeks as part of its bid to open Northern Ireland’s first taproom.

The brewery, which has 1,500 members, launched the fundraising drive last month, offering investors an opportunity to own a share of the new taproom in east Belfast.

Co-founder Matthew Dick said it now close to hitting its goal, adding: “Once again, we’ve been blown away by the support from our community.

“To raise £60,000 in a few short weeks is an incredible endorsement from our members and we’re over the moon with the response.

“Our plan is to get the taproom ready for launch this summer and to do that, work needs to begin shortly on the fitout.”

The community shares start at £100 per share, offering 18% beer from the company’s shop and 10 per cent off all Boundary beer from all their other venues.

Investors also get 20% of their investment back as a gift voucher for Boundary beer in all the brewery’s venues.

The new taproom will also feature wine and local spirits and visitors will be fed and watered thanks to a partnership with Flout Pizza.

On total, Boundary Brewing is investing a total of £300,000 in the launch of the new Taproom. £150,000 will come from the community share raise and the other £150,000 has already been financed.

Crowdsourcing played a key part in the Boundary Brewing story, with £100,000 raised in just eight days from around 400 members to get it off the ground in 2014.
