Portadown favourite The Head O’ The Road has been named Community Bar of the Year at the LCN Awards.

Spotcheck judges said of the venue: “The winner of this award impressed the judges with unstinting support of a wide range of community initiatives, sponsorship provided and charity fundraising.  They have built strong long-term partnerships with their community and their suppliers and have evolved their offering to create a popular community hub to welcome allcomers.”

The highly anticipated awards – which are hosted by Northern Ireland’s premiere business magazine for the hospitality industry – took place at a Great Gatsby themed event at the Europa Hotel, Belfast.

On collecting his award from Richard Mayne, Wholesale Director with sponsor Drinks Inc, owner John Lawson said: “I’m made up to win this award which is for the whole team and down to all the hard work we’ve done all year to make it as good as it can be. Coming out of Covid wasn’t easy and this is a real lift for everyone connected to the bar.”

Beaten finalists included:

  • Friels Bar and Restaurant, Maghera
  • Ponderosa, Glenshane Pass
  • The Corner House Bar, Lurgan

Portstewart favourite Chipmongers has lifted the coveted Fish and Chip Shop of the Year gong at the 2022 LCN Awards.

In clinching the coveted gong, sponsored by McWhinney Sausages, the shop beat other local faves including Fiships in Camlough and The Frying Squad and The Salt House in Bangor.

In choosing Chipmongers as the category winner, Spotcheck’s judge said: “What a treat – the wonderfully fresh and crispy fish and chips were served promptly by efficient and engaging staff.  Portions sizes were generous and I was very impressed with both the excellent quality and professional service that I received.”

On collecting the coveted gong at Belfast’s Europa Hotel, owner Gareth Montgomery said: “It’s great to be at such a fabulous industry awards and winning one makes the night all the more special. We try hard to give our customers the very best and this proves we must be doing something right.”

Popular Bangor venue Hop House is celebrating having scooped the Live Music Venue of the Year gong at the recent LCN Awards.

What was once Coyles Bar and Bistro in High Street is now a jumping two-storey, dog-friendly bar, eaterie and performance space which is driven by live music and a devoted and passionate clientele.

Judges for Spotcheck said of the winner:  ” There was a great atmosphere in this venue.  The emphasis on live music offering with open mic night, DJ Friday and live acts on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday appealed to a wide audience.”

Hop House beat stiff competition to lift the title, sponsored by PPL PRS, including Dorman’s Bar, Magherafelt, The Goat’s Toe, Bangor and The Corner House Bar, Lurgan.

On collecting the coveted gong,  at at Belfast’s Europa Hotel, Nathan Bowen said: “We have great team at Hop House and it is a brilliant venue to visit. Championing live music is what it is all about and it’s great to see venues like ours flying again after what they had to endure during the worst of Covid. This ward means an awful lot.”

The venue also made a point of shouting about their achievement on Facebook, writing: “Well pleased to have been awarded LIVE MUSIC VENUE OF THE YEAR 2022 at this years LCN Awards at The Europa hotel Belfast. We had a fantastic time!

“Thank to all our amazing staff and to all our customers, music fans alike!
“We will continue to make Hop House Bangor one of the best places to hear live, original and kick ass musicians and DJs.

The shortlist for the LCN Awards Customer Service gong has been unveiled.

Six venues are this year squaring off for the coveted title, with the winner being crowned at the LCN Awards gala dinner and prize-giving on September 30, and with tickets for the big night selling fast it would be well advised to snap yours up now.

The six venues that went over and above to make shortlist are:

  • Belmore Court & Motel, Enniskillen.
  • Courtney’s Steakhouse, Newry
  • Killeavy Castle Estate, Killeavy
  • The Balmoral Hotel, Belfast
  • The Belfray County Inn Hotel, Derry
  • The Bushmills Inn, Bushmills

Celebrating his shortlisting, Belfray Country Inn Hotel manager Jason Deery told LCN: “My team and I are thrilled to have been both nominated and subsequently shortlisted for the Outstanding Customer Service of the year award.

“Everyone here at The Belfray Country Inn Hotel works extremely hard and prides themselves on offering our guests the highest standard of friendly service, so it is great to be recognised for what my team do so well. The hotel has been described to me by guests as an institution within the city for both locals and those who travel far and wide to visit of our award winning carvery in particular.

“We are all looking forward to a great night at the prestigious LCN award ceremony in September, which I have no doubt will be a fantastic night celebrating the best in hospitality.”

The big night itself, it includes a feast of top entertainment, with hosts Sarah Travers and Joe Lindsay returning to keep the show on the track throughout.

This year promises to bigger and better than ever, with past winners licking their lips at the prospect of a return and the possibility that they could again be among the winners of Northern Ireland’s most prestigious hospitality awards.
