Following the announcement that the upcoming third series of Derry Girls will be the last, Hastings Hotels and McComb’s Coach Travel have teamed up to launch a new day trip to give fans of the hit show the chance to walk in the shoes of Michelle, Erin, Clare and Orla.

In addition to the Derry Girls Experience, which will go from Belfast to Derry-Londonderry, due to overwhelming demand for the Line of Duty Experience launched in June, additional capacity has been added with a second option running from the Europa Hotel. Both tours will run weekly from Saturday 6th November.

Julie Hastings, marketing director of Hastings Hotels said: “We’re devastated that the much-loved Derry Girls series is coming to an end. However, we are thrilled to be able to partner up with McComb’s to launch this fabulous new experience and give fans the chance to be a Derry Girl for the day.

“They will be able to visit some of the most famous filming locations and enjoy afternoon tea that has been inspired by the show and includes sausage roll baps, fresh cream horns, a cone of chips and Tayto cheese and onion sarnies.

‘Great banter and craic’

“In addition to this, we have been blown away by the response to our Line of Duty Experience with over 1,000 people booking it to date. We are excited to be able to double the capacity by launching a new tour from the Europa Hotel and give even more fans of the hit show the chance to follow in the footsteps of their favourite coppers from AC-12.”

The Derry Girls Experience will depart from the Europa Hotel onboard a luxurious McComb’s coach and gives fans the chance to see some of the filming locations with Charlene McCrossan of McCrossan City Tours.

Caroline McComb from McComb’s Coach Travel and James McGinn from Hastings Hotels launch the new day trip experiences

Guests will enjoy great banter and craic with lots of interesting facts about the series whilst hearing about life in the Bogside during the troubles from an expert local guide. See the Guildhall, where President Clinton was welcomed to in the early 90s as portrayed in season two and you’ll also have the chance to take a selfie at the famous Derry Girls Mural.

It’s then off to the Everglades to enjoy a Derry Girls Afternoon Tea which includes sandwiches, freshly baked scones & breads and a pastry assortment but with a Derry Girls twist – sausage roll baps, fresh cream horns, cone of chips, Tayto cheese and onion sarnies and a cocktail.

The Derry Girls Experience is £65pp and the Line of Duty Experience is £59pp. To book go to www.mccombscoaches.com or call 028 9086 6162.

Hospitality’s biggest night is fast approaching and entries for the 10th LCN Gala Awards have been arriving with us in huge numbers once again this year.

Also, we’re receiving a flood of enquiries around criteria and the closing date, so we’ve decided to extend this by just 48 hours to give you a little more time to get into the running for NI’s biggest hospitality competition.

You now have until midnight on March 21 to submit your bid for the trade’s most sought-after awards.

You can do this by clicking on the ‘LCN Awards’ tab above – you can also get all the details from any recent copy of the magazine, although you’ll probably need to enter online at this stage if you don’t want to miss our final deadline.

Remember, these are Northern Ireland’s premier hospitality awards – entirely independently organised, rigorously assessed by Spotcheck NI and attached to the biggest night out on the local hospitality calendar, the LCN Gala Awards, which take place this year at the Europa hotel in Belfast on June 7.

With new sponsors onboard; a fresh new category line-up; live broadcasts with our long-term media partner, Q Radio  and an exciting line-up of live entertainment on the night there is simply nothing to touch the Licensed & Catering News Awards.

It’s become a local institution and you can be a big part of this year’s event – get your entry in today and be in with a chance of securing local and national publicity for you and your business and the satisfaction that comes with peer recognition at this level.

You have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Click on the awards tab at the top of this page and launch your bid for a place on the winners’ podium at the 10th Licensed & Catering News Awards.
